*** The Royal Thai Consulate-General in Vancouver will retain all documents submitted in support of requests for official documents issued by the Consulate, such as birth certificates, death certificates, marriage certificates, and divorce certificates, as these must be kept as part of official records ***

 

Information

• Birth registration (application for a Thai birth certificate) is available only for individuals who are children of a Thai national father and/or mother.
• In cases where the child derives Thai nationality from the father, the father must be the legal father (i.e. legally married to the mother, with a valid marriage certificate provided).
• The Royal Thai Consulate-General in Vancouver accepts birth registration applications only for individuals born in British Columbia, Alberta, and Yukon. For those born in other provinces or territories of Canada, please contact the Royal Thai Embassy in Ottawa.

 

Submission of Application

- In person: Please make an appointment in advance via email at [email protected] (subject line: “Thai Birth Certificate Application – [Child’s Name]”).
- By mail: Please contact the Consulate-General via email in advance to have your documents reviewed prior to submission. Applications may then be mailed to:

Please note that the applicant must appear in person to sign before an officer on the day of collection of the Thai birth certificate.

Required Documents

  1. Completed Birth Registration Application Form Click here
  2. Canadian birth certificate issued by the local authority (Vital Statistics), showing the names of both parents, and authenticated with a Provincial authentication certificate (“apostille”)
  3. One copy of the Thai national ID cards of both parents, signed to certify as true copies
  4. One copy of the passports of both parents, signed to certify as true copies. If either parent is a non-Thai national, the document must be notarized by a Notary Public and authenticated with a Provincial authentication certificate (“apostille”)
  5. One copy of the house registration of both parents, signed to certify as true copies
  6. One copy of the marriage certificate. If the marriage is registered in Canada, the document must be notarized by a Notary Public and authenticated with a Provincial authentication certificate (“apostille”)
  7. One copy of the Thai national ID card or passport of the informant (if the parents are not the informants), signed to certify as a true copy
  8. Letter of consent for use of surname (required if the parents are not legally married) Click here
  9. For applicants born before 26 February 1992: please complete the required interview record form for retrospective acquisition of Thai nationality under Section 10 of the Nationality Act (No. 2) B.E. 2535 (1992) Click here

Fees
There is no fee for the issuance of a Thai birth certificate.
