On 25 September 2026, Mr. Kwangsuk Lee, Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Vancouver, paid a courtesy call on Ms. Nattanipa Burusapat, Consul-General of Thailand in Vancouver, on the occasion of his assumption of the new position. Both sides highlighted the longstanding and close relations between Thailand and the Republic of Korea, including historical ties stemming from Thailand’s participation in the Korean War. They also exchanged views on further promoting cooperation in trade and investment, future industries, digital technology, clean energy, and tourism.
The two sides discussed the Republic of Korea–Canada relations, particularly opportunities for cooperation in supply chains, critical minerals, energy, technology, and future industries. Canada’s strengths in natural resources and energy, together with South Korea’s expertise in technology and advanced manufacturing, present opportunities to connect cooperation from the sourcing and processing of raw materials to manufacturing and technology development, including growing opportunities for liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports from Canada amid evolving global energy dynamics.
As Thailand currently chairs the ASEAN Consuls-General in Vancouver, the Consuls-General also exchanged views on ASEAN–ROK cooperation, particularly as Thailand currently serves as the ASEAN–ROK Country Coordinator, as well as cooperation under the Mekong–ROK Cooperation Framework and opportunities to strengthen ties between the Thai and Korean communities in Western Canada. Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination and explore practical opportunities for further cooperation.
